Keeping fire shutters ready to work

A fire shutter may sit open for years and only need to close once. When that moment comes, it has to work. Regular servicing and testing makes sure the shutter will close as designed when the fire alarm or release mechanism triggers it.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for a building must make sure fire safety equipment, including fire shutters and fire doors, is maintained in efficient working order and good repair.

What our fire shutter service includes

  • Drop testing to confirm the shutter closes fully
  • Checking the link to the fire alarm and the release mechanism
  • Inspection of the curtain, guides, barrel and bottom rail
  • Checking warning devices and control units
  • A written report for your fire safety records

If a shutter fails a test, we'll explain why and quote for the repair. We also install new fire shutters and fire doors as part of new builds, refits and replacement projects.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How often should a fire shutter be tested?

We'll recommend a schedule based on the shutter and how your building is used. Many sites include fire shutters in a planned maintenance contract so testing is never missed.
